Section: African Methodist Episcopal
Material: White marble
Misc: Very small stone with just minor wear and no significant damage beyond darkening
Inscription: In Memory of Henry Lovett Jackson Drowned June 11th, 1840 Aged 9 years
There is no other information on this young boy. I have not yet been able to identify Henry’s parents (though the name Jackson is not uncommon in Albany records of the era) or the circumstances of his death. Chronological compilations of happenings in and around Albany – such as Joel Munsell’s Annals of Albany and the exhaustive Albany Chronicles – make no mention of a child’s drowning. This is one of several children’s gravestones in the A.M.E. lot.
